Most Online Junkies Enjoy Making Friends Online
When I was ready to begin making friends online there were things to take into consideration. Choose from live chat, free chat room, online community or friends leading to online dating. I chose a free chat room with the intention of making friends online who share my interests. I keep a list on my personal homepage of possible social networks or online communities that are possibilities.
There's good live chat and unwelcome live chat. Predators online make friends with the intent of them being "friends with benefits." Live chat can lead to video chat with unwanted results. I'm too sophisticated to be shocked at receiving a visual I didn't want when I agreed to a video chat, but in the wise words of the fictional Delores Claiborne, "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me."
Online friends will join me in free chat rooms mostly, perhaps in live chat that requires membership but spare me any future video chats. I prefer my chat friends fully clothed.
The list on my homepage led to chats about horses. A great one was with a girl in Montana who did barrel racing for a living. She had five horses and competed at rodeos and Western horse shows in her part of the country. We had a great live chat about training horses and how much she could win.
My sad story of knocking over the third barrel in a Rodeo Queen Contest was a humiliation from the past I wouldn't share in real life. Social networks change rapidly as people get busy and drift off to other free chat rooms and social networks. My chat friends change along with current interests. I did maintain one friend for over a year, almost seemed like online dating. Fine with me as long as the relationship remains - online dating.
